D.A.R.E. is, and has been, a special program for the Bolivar Police Department. In the early 1990’s when the program was first introduced to the mid-west, MSHP Trooper Alan Hines taught the first class in a Bolivar classroom as a trial. It was a success, and since then the BPD has provided a D.A.R.E. instructor for the core D.A.R.E. lessons for 5th grade students. Each year at ‘DARE Graduation’, the tremendous attendance by the parents serves as a reminder of the community’s support and commitment for their children and the program. This program is the perfect catalyst for uniting the school, home, and police department for a common cause, our children. So, D.A.R.E. can make a difference in our school children’s lives and thus our community’s future.
