The Code Enforcement Department seeks to maintain and improve of the quality of life and property within the City of Bolivar through administering fair and unbiased code enforcement. It is responsible for protecting the safety, health and welfare of the citizens by ensuring buildings, structures and land use activities comply with the rules set forth in the Bolivar Municipal Code, the Property Maintenance Code and other adopted building codes. As a result, an attractive, livable city is promoted, property values are improved and community growth is encouraged. Planning & Zoning
The Planning & Zoning Commission consists of 9 members, including the City Mayor and an Alderman, chosen by a majority vote of the Board of Alderman.  The remaining 7 members are Bolivar citizens who are appointed by the City Mayor and approved by a majority vote of the Board of Alderman.  Each citizen member serves a term of 4 years. 2010 Comprehensive Plan

In 1969 shortly after the first Planning & Zoning Department began work in Bolivar, the first City Comprehensive Plan was adopted.  The Comprehensive Plan was updated twice in 1980 and 1984.  However, in 2006 city staff and officials recognized the need for another update.  (more…)
