Fire Stations

Fire Department
The City Fire Department provides complete firefighting capabilities, vehicle extrication and rescue capabilities, medical response with 9 NREMT’s and 10 emergency medical responders, and haz-mat response to the Operations level. We have 19 of our 24 firefighters trained to that level. Station 1 is our main station and is located at 312 S. Springfield Avenue. Station 1 houses two engines, one 100’ platform and one brush truck/medical response unit. All three pumping units have 1500 gpm pumps. We have both a small combination unit and a full heavy duty extrication set for rescue calls, as well as air bags. Both engines are extended cab units with intercom systems, equipped with Thermal Imaging Cameras, Knox Box systems and all ISO mandated equipment. The Code Enforcement Department seeks to maintain and improve of the quality of life and property within the City of Bolivar through administering fair and unbiased code enforcement. It is responsible for protecting the safety, health and welfare of the citizens by ensuring buildings, structures and land use activities comply with the rules set forth in the Bolivar Municipal Code, the Property Maintenance Code and other adopted building codes. As a result, an attractive, livable city is promoted, property values are improved and community growth is encouraged. Fire Department
Requirements to be a volunteer are: o   18 yrs of age o   Pass background check and drug/alcohol screening o   Score a 4.0 or greater on the physical capacity test o   Possess a valid operator’s license and have automobile insurance o   Be able to perform the normal functions expected of a firefighter o   Possess a high school diploma or a GED Requirements for a full-time position o   MO Firefighter I & II certification o   AT LEAST emergency medical responder certification o   Pass the physical firefighter screening test with a minimum score o   All the requirements listed for volunteers above ALL members must pass NIMS 700, 800, 100, 200.  Captains must add NIMS 300, and White Hats (Chief Officers) add NIMS 400. The Planning & Zoning Commission consists of 9 members, including the City Mayor and an Alderman, chosen by a majority vote of the Board of Alderman.  The remaining 7 members are Bolivar citizens who are appointed by the City Mayor and approved by a majority vote of the Board of Alderman.  Each citizen member serves a term of 4 years. 2010 Comprehensive Plan

In 1969 shortly after the first Planning & Zoning Department began work in Bolivar, the first City Comprehensive Plan was adopted.  The Comprehensive Plan was updated twice in 1980 and 1984.  However, in 2006 city staff and officials recognized the need for another update.  (more…)
